The ip route-cache command on a 2900XL switch applies to traffic
originating from the switch's management interface, VLAN1 by default. 
It will not have an effect on any other traffic.

That explains why pretty much all the documents on Cisco refer to
routers
using that. But of all the sample configs Ive seen for 2900 have the no
ip
route-cache being used. I just wonder if you can use it on a 2900
switch
why include the command?

We use it on our 7200s here and it certainly does make a differance.
