Actually the WIC-1T can be used in asynchronous mode on the
1600 and 1700 series platforms!

The command you're looking for is "physical-layer async"

In all other platforms, it operates in sychronous mode "only".

If you want a WIC card that supports asynchronous serial then a WIC-2A/S
would do.

You mention modem support. Is your aux port free? If so, any reason why it
won't meet your needs?
