I disagree. In order to get a clearance, not only do you have to make the right choices, but all of your past and present friends, roomates, and coworkers need to make the right choices too. Add to that, it only takes one person bad-mouthing you to delay or even end your investigation... ask yourself this, is there at least one person out there who would lie about you in order to make your life difficult?
It's a very subjective process, and one that I don't care to go through again. If you have a clearance, be glad that you do.
