duh

i don't know why i never learned to use the break key. if i've ever
lost a password in the past, i've always changed the
config-register...oh well. the break key worked. i booted it into rom,
and loaded a new config. it turns out that my config was created with
an IOS that is incompatible with like every other version...

anyway, thanks everybody, for your help...sorry that it turned out to be
my lame-o moves...

Ed- I'm trying to make sense of the output and your trouble shooting
steps, as explained in your E-mail. If the 2511 did not have 11.0(10c)
ROMs, then the router would more or less hang-up when upgraded beyond
11.3 or 12.0 (I don't remember the cutoff for the 10.0 ROMs).

If the router seems to be choking with the use of 12.2, issue the Cntrl
BREAK upon bootup and reload an older IOS (say 12.0 or 12.1) to rule out
some sort of bug. Though I have not had issues with 12.2 in my 2500s,
this code is not a GR (General Release) and most definitely could be
reacting with the FLASH and RAM "manufacturer" combination that have
going on in your 2511.

There is also a slim chance you have zapped the RAM (rare but true).

Anywho- I "believe" what you are showing us here is an issue where the
memory works fine in the 2522. The "Read Only" seems a little weird
(after the 16 Megs FLASH), but then again... certain versions of code
read this way and in the upgrade process automatically call for a
software reload that enables the "Read Only" to change upon coming back
up.

If I've missed the boat, please offer more info. For better or worse, I
have probably upgraded no less than a 100 2500s and 3000s (Y2K) in the
few short years I have been working on Cisco.

All the best !!!
Phil

my 2511 was working fine a few days ago with--i believe--11.0xx
software. i created a configuration and saved it. yesterday, i
upgraded the RAM so that i could load 12.2xx.

the router won't fully boot up, and it never goes into the config or
into rommon. i don't get it. again, it was working a few days ago.
unfortunately, i can't put the old chips back in b/c i overwrote them
already--ugh. i loaded up 12.2.7 onto the flash via another router and
tried to boot it up again in the 2522...

here's the output from when i start up the router, to where it hangs...
