Clayton, thanks, the service timestamps was the trick.

One more thing, the hostname is not being displayed in the syslog GUI,
however, I do have the hostname configured on the switch & router in the
6509. Any ideas on that one?

service timestamps log datetime localtime show-timezone
!
clock timezone EST -5
clock summer-time EDT recurring
