Having worked too many years in the financial sector, I can say with assurance that far too many of these types come to you with the solution, and all they want is for you to do it. Far too few of them understand the idea of presenting a problem, and asking those whom they perceive as their subordinates to provide a solution.
One hope that one can establish rapport, and work with someone who has ears as well as a mouth. But more often than not you end up just saying "yes sir" and proposing whatever idiot solution the customer tells you he wants.
