In Native mode the supervisor module boots up and passes control to the msfc2, which is running the IOS code for msfc2. This allows the msfc2 router module to control the routing and switching functions of the cat6509. This mode allows the msfc2 to handle the layer 2 switching as well as the layer 3 routing functions, and the network engineer only needs to administer IOS type code commands.

Maybe a bigger hammer... Does this mean there isn't anything running on the Sup? Did I miss something? >>> "Larry Letterman" 07/31/02 11:48AM >>> [snip] If you install the sup2/msfc2 as native IOS, where ios runs on the msfc2 only, then the msfc2 handles the layer2/layer3 connections and allows the gig and fast ethernet ports to be setup like physical router ports( layer3) or as layer 2 switch ports.
