Hello,

In my limited experience with the CJK package, I have only found "poor
man's bold fonts" for Japanese, whereby a character is printed three
times with slight vertical and horizontal offsets to simulate bold
type.

Are there any true bold or semi-bold or "gothic" scripts available? In
CJK I see only several packages fonts dating from around 1998, with no
indication of weight. And while I have seen some posts on mailing
lists (Googled) about converting Wada fonts (from what I don't know
but to something TeX can understand) what is the standard route to
take in order to get bold fonts under CJK. I know in general mincho
(~serif) and gothic (~sans-serif, maybe semi-bold) are available under
for example OpenOffice.

I've seen some discussion about Chinese fonts in the CJK
documentation, but it is pretty old. Can anyone point me to what I
should aiming for?
