Hello Steve We went through this with our Cherry in 1999. She was drained off about 4 times with the increase in build up worsening everytime. I am afraid it is not good news but probably varies with each cavalier. All you can do is make her as comfortable as possible and whilst she is happy to eat and be cuddled then she has quality of life. Just do not leave it too late! as that is much, much worse.
Cherry was just under ten years old when I had to make the decision and she was ill for around 3 months. Cherry was also a tricolour and the mother of my first show dog Freddie. She was a real sweetheart. Take care and love her to bits.
