are they just
slow to get up and walk?
Laura,
If you ever experienced a swimmer puppy you would not make that
statement. A swimmer has a FLAT chest like a turtle, they do not even feel
right if you hold them in your hands. They do not even navigate themselves
normally around the whelping box, their little legs stick out. If caught
early when the bones are soft they can be gently forced into proper place to
"round" out the chest like regular puppies. There is no possibility for
them correcting themselves without intervention. Years back without any
form of correction these puppies never became normal and used to be put to
sleep. Many breeders waited for them to walk on their own and they never
did. Now there is much more information on the subject and breeders also
share information with one another. I question genetics, but I also
question surface that infant pups are raised on, no one really knows what is
behind this condition. Fortunately we have the information to reverse it
now.
