Swimmers have a flat chest. But they are not always "fat". The few Chin puppies I've had with the condition have tended to be on the petite side. The ribs turned in toward the sternum at a sharp acute angle. I first noticed it at about 3 weeks; the condition righted itself by 3 months -- at three months, you could not tell which pups had been swimmers.
I don't know the exact cause. Maybe they have a softer or more immature cartilage or rib. Or maybe they were just "stepped on" as babies, causing the temporary deformity of the rib cage.
