Aha! Thanks. Looking at the link you have posted the latest version of Clojure is alpha6, but contrib is reporting 1.2 - that must be the root of my problem.
i have been using http://build.clojure.org/releases/org/clojure/clojure/because up until alpha4 it was serving both in sync.
