Is your access point a "linksys?" if it is, that's where your problem could be. I've found linksys very unreliable. I've chucked at least 3 of them in the last year or so. Netgear and SMC have proven to be more reliable.

It might be cheaper for you to try another brand before you wire the house... just my opinion...
