Yep, I've seen the Life with BincIMAP page... It's what I used to get binc
running, and to setup my SSL certificates. Maybe I'll try out courier next
weekend though - I've used it for POP3 services before and found it
"relatively" easy to setup. Thanks for the feedback.

I have MS Outlook configured to connect to my IMAP server, and migrated all
my emails into an IMAP folder. This process takes a very long time - longer
than one would expect in transferring simple files, and I'm getting time
outs on a regular basis talking to the IMAP server. If I disable SSL and do
plain text, things are more stable, but the processing still seems slow.

it looks like I'm close, but then I run into a huge delay opening my inbox
(top on the server shows bincimap taking 99% of cpu time during this delay).

this is on a Gentoo server, but I don't think these issues are distro
specific.

I've not used bincimap with qmail as yet. I use courier-imap on all our
mail servers. I have seen others complaining of high cpu usage with
bincimap, and the consensus seems to be that binimap requires about 3
times as much cpu usage as courier-imap to complete the same
transaction, but completes the transaction faster. Your scenario seems
to be using rather excessive amounts of cpu though. I'm not sure if
you've seen this page or not, but others on the mail lists I monitor say
it's been helpful:
