Hi Richard and Everyone,
I remember well the discussion we had a year or two ago about thyroid and the many side effects we experience from Gleevec and how similliar they were. I did indeed get my thyroid checked at that time and although normal values, they were close to the limit. (BTW, MJ, while the TSH is the main thyroid test, the relationship of the TSH with the T4 is important as well so ideally, it would be good to have both checked.) I put on 30 pounds after I was diagnosed and while it would be easy for me to blame the Gleevec, I think it was much more due to the chips, ice cream and chocolate that I was eating :) The interesting thing is that last winter when I had all the extra weight, I don't remember being so cold. It was almost as if the fat padded me with warmth. Now that I've lost the weight, I'm back to freezing all the time like I did the first winter I was on Gleevec. Since my thyroid doesn't seem to be a problem, I've often wondered if the Gleevec could somehow effect the hypothalamus because it's not just a "cold intolerance" that I feel, but a real problem regulating any temperature. I do get hot occasionally, to the point where I'm all flushed and my skin is very hot so it seems I alternate between burning hot and cold to the bone. Additionally my sleep has been severely affected in the three years I've been on Gleevec and regardless of my weight or what I eat, I'm always hungry. I guess there's always more questions than there are answers. Take care, Tracey ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Give the gift of life to a sick child.
