If you are seriously contemplating a BMT, then order a 300-page book
from the National Marrow Donor Program called "Choosing a Transplant
Center: A Patient's Guide." It's free. Not only will you learn details
about individual centers, but there is also quite a bit of information
about how to obtain financial help. Go to ww.marrow.org or call
888-999-6743. Among ohther info, you can find out how many transplants
each facility has done for CML patients and what the survival rate has
been.

Then Google "bone marrow transplant" and you wil find many, many useful
references.

Be aware that there are a few centers that are free for those who can't
afford to pay, for example, City of Hope.

I don't know your age, but if you are old or young, then you want to
find a center that spoecializes in transplants for people your age.

Emory and OHSU each do around 100+ transplants a year. The big centers
that do 500+ transplants annually are the Hutch, City of Hope,
Sloan-Kettering, MD Anderson and Dana-Farber. (Apologies if I've
missed some). Maybe your mother is right.

Keep in mind that there is no need to get a transplant done in the same
facility that your Dr. is located. You want to go to the best Dr. you
can find, and, if he/she recommends a transplant, then you should shop
for a place to have it done.
