Steve, Garmin's Blue Chart (version 7) would load on the GPSMAP 78. There is no problem with compatibility; if anything you may have problems with enabling it for the new unit. If it is the newer version (g2), I would not know.
Btw. if you hit a problem with enabling the old version (unlocking is no longer supported on Garmin's web site), search further; there are known ways to solve that problem. Marek C&C 24 Fennel in Ottawa
