Seems odd. Hydrogen is produced at/in the batteries not the charger. The two could be (in my case are) separated by a significant distance.
I must have missed that in the instructions. (Would have helped if I read them.) Mine is installed vertically with no problems. Ventilation is not horrible but could be better...still no problems.
