Corsair, a 1981 40-2, has been to Bermuda three times with friends, but mostly family. Every trip to and fro we had all the usual weather stuff...gales (50 knots +) Gulf Stream fun and was even pooped. I never thought for a minute about her build or design capabilities out there. And we kept moving in the inevitable light air.
Did the 1997 Bermuda One-Two in a Westsail 32. 6 1/2 days later arrived. Never again.
