Your situation with 9 ft swells reminds me of a practice which I employ.
It involves tying the bow lines high on the piles and the stern lines low
or vice-versa.  As the water falls the bows tighten and the sterns loosen.
The reverse occurs when the water rises.  This causes the boat to move fore
and aft in the slip a bit but the need to leave the lines loose is
minimized.  The technique assumes that the bow and stern piles are a good
distance fore and aft of the boat as apposed to directly to the side.
Spring lines can still be a little complicated to set.  I like a product
called tide-minders.  It's a string of hard balls that roll up and down the
piles as the water rises and falls.

Hurricane check sat here in Solomons.  We got stormy skies and 15 to 20
knot winds.  The storm swell was probably 2 or 3 feet above normal high
tide.
