With many hole saws you can stack blades/bits.  The outer is the size you need, 
the inner the size of the old hole.

I replaced the original with a a Raymarine (airmar) about 5 yrs ago. Just 
centered the holesaw in the tapered hole and let loose, no problem. The hull 
was NOT cored just forward of the keel on our full keeled 33-2 . About 3/4 inch 
of solid fibreglass. Installed with a lick of black Lifecaulk, no leaks.
