As a follow-up, I also like the RAM unit because: 1) I can use different
size iPads with the same holder (a newer one and a relatively old one as a
back-up); and 2) I can also go to entirely different set-up to hold a Garmin
unit by switching out the mount being held in place. It's very versatile,
and not too expensive.

Also, a caution about Lifeproof iPad cases. Although they are great at
keeping water out (I've used them during downpours), a downside is the
opening that provides access to the charging port. The case works fine with
original Apple charging cords. However, many aftermarket charging cords
have larger plugs (the housing around the plug, not the plug itself) that
won't fit through the Lifeproof charge port opening.

I use a Lifeproof case and a RAM mount iPad holder on the top of the
pedestal guard. In about five seconds can remove everything but the little
ball U-bolted to the guard.

So I will be using an Apple IPad for chartplotter use. Anyone have
recommendations for a water proof case, temporary pedestal mount setup?
Thanks in advance.
