I was surprised to see a fairly large group of White-throated Swifts flying just above a razor-backed ridge on the far west end of Canon City today. They are commonly in the Royal Gorge canyon and I do see them at the mouth of that canyon (where Tunnel Drive trail is located). They put on a nice display for more than 15 minutes before returning to their canyon home.
Also nearby were several dozen Cedar Waxwings including a number of birds born this summer. When I birded the Canon City Riverwalk (from Sell's Lake trailhead to 1/2 mile east on both bluff and river trails) I saw my first Townsend's Warbler of the season in this location. I saw at least 7 of them earlier this week in Lamar Woods-Lamar,Co. I didn't get a photo of today's bird but posted several good photos I got of some of the Lamar bird's onto my Birds and Nature blog <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com>. Though birding was slow there today I also saw my first of the season Plumbeous Vireo (1-2 birds) and Yellow-rumped Warbler on that riverwalk today. The limited number of others warblers I saw were mostly Wilson's with a few Yellow and one Orange-crowned. I will post an email about birds in the Tyrant flycatcher family separately.
