I would like to thank Susan because I have been sitting here thinking about the
dominant thing.
And Susan said exactly what I wanted to say. In other words you get what you
give?
If you want love train with love. A trainer we once had asked us the first
class if we wanted our puppies to WANT to love us or HAVE to submit to us. I
chose wanting to love us. It takes a little longer but it is well worth it in
the end. A happy puppy makes a happy dog.
And I would also like to say if a puppy I had was not playfull and full of
life I would be taking them to the vet to see if they were sick. That is what
a puppy is, playful, full of live and laughs. Just like a human baby it takes
time for them to learn. Actually think how much faster they learn than a
human. Enjoy the puppiness because it is gone before you know it!! JMHO

  their playfulness can
somtimes be annoying. Wow, I think the playfulness is one of the greatest
things about them.
  Especially biting. As a puppy,
they are teething and will chew on anything,
especially humans. Sometimes it will work if you
screech an annoying sound and say no biting. One other thing that works well
is a frozen wet wash rag put in the freezer, that will soothe their gums.
  For my
puppy, when she bites I grab the skin on the back of
her neck and hold her down, and in a very dominant
voice I sternly say no biting. I also stare her in the
eyes when I do this. In this way, I become the
"Dominant" one.
That isn't positive reinforcement and many trainers will tell you that will
make a dog aggressive. Sorry but I don't agree with this method.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare.
And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.
