I agree w/Tim on the crate training. You need to put your poo in a crate with
no 'pee pads'. This will teach him that he needs to pee outside and not within
the house. Crate training is usually a much more effective means of teaching
a puppy than the pee pads.
As far as paper shredding... well, he is a puppy... so he doesn't know any
better about what to chew and not chew. Really that is up to you. You need to
change your lifestyle to make sure that stuff isn't available to him. My poo,
1.5 years old, will still tear up a magazine or paper towel if I leave it
laying around. I would recommend reading some training books which will help
give you a foundation on how to train him.
Another thing is.. up until maybe a 1 month ago I wouldn't even let my poo be
in an area of the house that I am not. Puppies are curious and get into
trouble! If you have to do something that makes it so you can't be watching
him then I would just suggest crating him until you can.
Good Luck!.... Right now is the hardest time.. It will get better.. I
promise!

Paper chewing , I may not be the most experienced , but I've
been there with this ... At 4 months old - you should crate train the 'poo &
that means get rid of the Pee papers ... bring him out to go .
When you aren't watching him closely ... crate him . puppy proof the areas
he'd be free to roam .. When he does get something you don't want him to
have - Say "No", not his name ... just NO. then offer him a good chewy
toy ( not a treat ) when he drops the Bad for the toy ... say " Good Boy
" a few times & a good pat on the head too . Teaching him to drop what
ever it is he has that you want might save his life ... or a trip to the
Vet.... try playin ball fetch & say drop ... using hand motions & reward
with treats til he gets it ... I'm a one word guy LOL rarely do I
speak more than a few to them .. I say " IN " my dogs go to their own
crates & sit there waiting for me to close their doors .. I say "Out" (
after opening the door & they run down the stairs to go out ...) If one is
getting into something in the house & I don't want him/her to I firmly
say (not yell) "OUT" ... and they stop & walk
away Hope that helps
