I guess that’s why these dogs cannot get a breed standard established by the AKC. You always know a black lab, or a beagle when you see one. The cockapoo just has too many un-uniform traits. My dog’s parents were first generation. One looked more poodle, and one looked more cockapoo. It was a good mix, as that litter of all pups had a classic cockapoo look. However, another liter with the same dad and a different mom had cockapoos that looked more like cocker spaniels. I agree, the more you breed out the generations, the more likely to get a uniform cockapoo look.
But in relation to the original post, a woman described her cockpoo as having “bug eyes” and a curly tail that came up over it’s back. Although poodles can sometime have prominent eyes, this doesn’t sound like cockers spaniel or poodle traits, does it? Since this breed has been around since the 1950’s, you’d think they’re be some uniformity to it. Do you have pictures of your dogs posted. My dog Mia (not the best pictures) is posted on the last page. You can see after her grooming she resembles more of a poodle (I guess since many groomers don’t really know what a cockapoo look is), but when she grows out, she’s a scrappy looking little girl. We often get her cut short (for convenience) and then let her grow out for a while.
