We just leave a bowl full of food out all the time and Beaux (1 year old) just eats whenever he wants.

We recently adopted Reilly a cockapoo from a family surrender that
seemed that they didn't like the fact that their puppy was growing
up. He was well taken care of and we decided after fostering him we
decided to adopt. =) best decision ever!! He is the best! still potty
training him. previous owner had a backyard and let him out whenever.

Our issue with Reilly is food agression he is currently 5.5 months
old almost 6 months old and we feed him Kirkland puppy food. PLease
don't post about how good or bad the food is. We did our research
and this is the best food in the category we can afford. Thing is we
aren't sure why he growls and bites when we get near him and pet him
while he is eating. We have tried conditioning him using steps from
the internet but nothing seems to get rid of the issue completely.
He is getting better but not 100%. WE have had him for almost 2
months. I am not sure if he just isn't getting enough food. Or maybe
i shuold be feeding him 3 times a day, splitting the daily portion in
three. We are actively working with him while feeding, i fed him by
hand for 2 weeks and he's fine, I have held the bowl and he's fine.
It becomes and issue when he is standing dominating his bowl. we are
working with a box now to cover his bowl the moment he starts to
growl so he doesnt think he can win his food by growling and to
associate growling with no food. IT seems to be working and we
started this yesterday. Any one have any ideas as to what to
suggest? He is roughly 13-15 pounds.
