What I did was to set the views setHidden property to YES. This is
doing exactly what I wanted. Thanks for the assistance.

NSImageView derives from NSView, which has a "hidden" property. But
you might find a tabless NSTabView easier: programmatically switching
between two tabs, one for each mode.
