You're having mysterious ref-counting bugs, so the fact that you're storing 
Obj-C references as void* sets off alarm bells.

Actually with Obj-C++ you get the best of both, so it's not either/or. And it 
would let you stop lying to the compiler, which would make your code more 
reliable and readable.
