That is incorrect (probably left over from a prerelease version), paced animation should work correctly. If it doesn't, please file a radar, with a test case if possible, so we can fix it.


After commenting out the calculationMode property of the path, the layers animate around the arc, but pause briefly at the start/end point of each
arc, making the animation anything but smooth.

That is what the "paced" mode is supposed to fix, so what you're seeing there is expected. (The distance along each path segment is not linearly related to the parametric value)
