If you're an Emacs user it's trivial to set it up to automatically copy the file from the source directory in the build area. This way you edit the source file and when you save it, it's automatically updated in the running system.
I have a slightly modified compile function which checks if there is a "\build\" in the error message, and if there is a file without the build path element, it is thrown out.
I really love IDEs which can be configured to do everything imaginable...
