There should be no need to build from source - but you need to ensure that you get the binary
version appropriate for your java version.  Your choices are JDK1.4 or JDK1.2 (for this purpose,
JDK1.3 is the same as 1.2).
 
Look in the WEB-INF/lib directory and look for a file/files that have vm14 or vm12 - excalibur
datasource jar may be the only one.
