Bad idea.

I'd say that all but the greenest of newbies consider knowing whether someone
is on the same server as them to be an important thing, especially when there
are lag issues to be considered, as is common.

In these days of large DCCs, CTCP PING cannot be considered to be a reliable
way to determine whether someone's bandwidth is tied up or it's just net lag.
Further, if there is lag, there will also be considerable lag if you try to
*ask* someone what server they're on ...
