While +r cuts down the number of spam bots extremely well, it also seems to starve the channel of the "normal" people/newbies. Traditionally IRC servers have sent terse messages to clients, and then the client has interpreted it. It would be better to talk to client developers and script developers to update this.
Yes, that would work too....and save some bandwidth Although, I imagine they (the client authors) would make things fairly generic and not tell the users how to register for undernet. Whereas, a "see http://cservice.undernet.org/howtologin.html"; from configurable runtime parameters would serve undernet well.
Eg, for a script "You cannot join #foo, as you aren't logged into this networks channel services, would you like to login to channel services and try again?
