As Jan Krueger already pointed out quite nicely: the solution to your problem can be found in example.conf.

What I do not understand is, that according to you, there must be something wrong with the example config file.
However, not only me but quite a few others were able to get their servers (both in development and production enviroments) running without any further problems. Now what does that mean?

First possibility would be all those people did some magic and *poof* they had a working config file.
Second possibility I can think of is that those people have actually read the example configuration file which contains, as it name might suggest, an example configuration with quite a few comments on how to write a configuration file and built their configs based on that information.

I'd go for the latter to be honest, it worked out well for me (and probably for everyone else but you aswell).

What you are asking for here is support from the program's developers for writing a configuration file even though that step is well documented.
Compared to other internet standards that could somehow be compared with, for example, asking the Mozilla development team on how to write an HTML file. Would you really do that or just use the documentation that is available to you?

I'm quite sure nobody on this list wants to offend you, but when someone does think of my example above... It simply is annoying that you are too lazy to read the example config.

However, your request for support would maybe be valid if you paid for the product you are using, so, did you pay anything? - No, you did not.
And even then you wouldn't contact the products developers but rather a support team (after reading all documentation the product shipped with).

Correct me if I'm wrong but this mailing list is not intended to be used as a support platform for people who are too lazy to read the documentation but rather to discuss coding-related topics, including bugs, patches and maybe undocumented features (which shouldn't exist though as the whole code is well documented and a lot of information can be found in the package's doc directory).

If your problem was caused by a bug in ircu (which it was not) you would be right here, but in your case you simply aren't.

I hope this somehow opens your eyes and helps you understand why you are not getting any "proper" support here.

Stephan Peijnik
