Not that I know of Andy. I don't think it's a bug that anyone is arguing with and as far as I'm aware it will be addressed in 1.1 as it's a design bug rather than an implementation bug.
You mention adding an appendSuper method to handle trimming the prefix etc. If you could submit this idea as a patch, it ought to speed up the process of seeing this fix in the nightly build.
