Damien, Do not give up on us too soon. We are very close to branching 2.0 release out and to commencing 2.1 development on the CVS head. The feature you need may be there sooner than you think.
Besides, I sense the recent BETA-2 has pretty good chances of eventually becoming the 2.0 release. The number of confirmed bug reports per week has been steadily declining.
