It occurs to me that after Atari went out of business as a computer
manufacturer, they sold all their parts inventory to wholesalers and
closeout houses. Since the Atari 1040ST's power supply module put out all
the standard voltages necessary (+5v, +12v, -12v), I remember that a lot
of techies and experimenters bought lots of them to use in other devices,
most usually, external hard drives, or as gerry-rigged replacement power
supplies in other computers. Maybe even compact Macs.
I wonder if that's where the bunch you found originated?
