Well, you're talking about technology that's ~10 years apart. XP has all the latest 
preemptive multitasking and kernel protection stuff built in (more or less), while 7.1 
(and up to the last of the 9's, really) is still using the old cooporative 
multitasking with minimal memory/kernel protection. It does so happen that 
well-behaved Mac apps are more likely to keep running well than Win apps, but even on 
a Mac things will go wrong, and when they do, the OS itself is vulnerable. OS X fixed 
that of course, but since we're not likely to see OS X on an '030...

There's always A/UX ;)
