> With all the talk and excitement with using 575 580 55xx 65xx motherboards to upgrade classics and colopur classic, is there any reason why powerbook motherboards can't be used? > They are probably smaller etc.... ?
The Colour Classic logicboard has an edge connector running alongside the front. This plugs into the appropriate slot mounted on the CC's chassis and provides all of its connections to the rest of the machine - power, video, SCSI, sound etc. The 575 (but _not_ the 580) logic board has the same connector and can so can be easily swapped for the CC's logic board. The 5xxx and 65xxx logic boards also have this connector (or something similar - its been a while), but require much more work before they can be installed into the Colour Classic. I guess if you were determined enough, you could get a PowerBook logic board to work, but as a PowerBook logic board lacks the requisite edge connector, you would be forced to spend quite a few tense hours sweating over a hot soldering iron physically wiring all the video, SCSI, power etc. connections, wire by wire, from said logic board to the rest of the CC. Also, I would expect that the PowerBook board would require a lower input voltage that that of a desktop Mac so you'd have to cram a new power supply in there somewhere... Anyway, that's the rough idea, but there are others here who are far more qualified to explain this than I. Cheers, Adam. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
