The best width adjustment takes the screen outside the edges of the viewable
area. If you can't adjust to that, then the power supply may be weak. Adding
a fan to that may signal it's untimely death. Using a voltmeter, place the
two leads into the mouse port top right and top second-to-right. You MUST
read between 4.8 and 5.5V. If not, DON'T add a fan. Run it backless if
needed. But keep a fan or any other current-drawing device out of the Plus
until you can do a Pina repair, (Mac Upgrade Secrets), replacing bad
capacitors and diodes.
