The width control is actually an adjustable coil. If youy say 'to the
limit', I guess the adjustable core is way out of the coil, on direction.
Try the other direction. Just a wild guess, though.

Ah, that seems to be my cue, since Philip provided me with all the Compact
schematics. According to them, the power connector has 11 pins in a row.
Pin 10 on the connector provides + 12V (red). Pin 9 can be used as ground
(black). Better double check with tast voltmeter.

Perhaps you can attach the wires on the outside (soldering side) of the
analog board.
