IIRC, Larry Pina recommends putting a  1 Mohm resistor in line 
(series) with the discharge wire to slow the discharge.   He says 
there's a component that is likely to be damaged if you discharge it 
with an unrestricted wire to ground.

So, screwdriver, bit of wire, 1 Mohm resistor, more wire, chassis/ground.
