If you have no luck with any of the mac formatters, you might try to 
format the drive with a scsi installed pc or a Amiga 500. Hopefully you 
know someone locally that can help you with either of these machines. 
Both will perform a more sledge-hammer like format which, if successful, 
should clear the way for use your mac. Best of luck.
