BEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Wrong answer Jeff. Actually All MFM and RLL Drives had two connectors on the. The Larger (34 Pin I think) was the Controller interface, and the smaller data cable. Each was notched. Back in the early/mid 80's when I was repairing PC's, I would get a lot of systems in with "failed" hard drive upgrades. Most of the time, people confused the 34 pin edge connector on the floppy cable with the one for the hard disk. (The 5.25" floppy was edge connector based not pins like the 3.5") Either way, check out a ST225 or ST238 MFM/RLL on Seagates site. the Specs page is pretty clear. The IS a power connector, at least on a non modified MFM or RLL. SCA had the power "inline" but SCSI, EDSI, RLL, MFM or IDE all use the standard 4 pin connect (+5volts, Ground, Ground, +12 volts.).
The Apple 20HD was a modified MFM designed to run off the external Floppy port on the Plus (SE?). Sorry I know PC's better then older macs.... :S http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/mfm/st225.html There is the link to Seagates ST225, one of the most widely used MFM drives ever made. Cheers! It will not work with IDE >or SCSI. MFM or modified MFM sounds plausible, but this does not have a 34 pin connector. I'm familiar with the dual cable MFM scheme having installed a number of them way back when. Anyway, there's no 34 pin connector on this thing, just the single 26 pin IDC (IDC is the name for hte ribbon cable connectors we're all familiar with) connector. There's no separate power connector, so power must be on one or more of those 26 pins as well. Jeff Walther -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
