networking system 6 & OS X

Finally got around to testing the network connection between my SE 
(System 6.0.8, ethernet PDS) and G4 (OS X 10.3.7). The G4 sees 
nothing-- not surprising. The SE sees the G4 in the chooser, but when I 
try to connect, I get:

This server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You 
cannot connect to it. Please contact the server's administrator.

Arrrg...
I'm looking for an easy way to transfer files from one to the other. 
preferably without moving up to System 7 on the SE.

Any ideas?
