There was also a US Robotics Sportster voice modem (I forget the model),
and the Global Village Teleport 33.6 Speakerphone Edition, which had
excellent software, and the hardware also supported being a speakerphone
even when the computer was turned off. I've been saving a GV Teleport
33.6 Speakerphone to hook up to a compact Mac to use as my answering
machine one of these days (it's what I used in college in my dorm room
with good success under MacOS 7.5 and above)... if anyone needs the
software, let me know, since Global Village only has the updates on their

You will need to find a DoveFax+ modem, made by DOVE Computer. The + is
the voice model. I acquired a few DOVE modems but through email and the
various disks I found, I was able to get all of the pieces of the
software that originally came with the modem.
I am planning on setting up a system with one of these modems, so
hopefully I will know the inner workings soon. Please feel free to ask
me if you have any more questions, as I feel that I have acquired a bit
of knowledge of this stuff since there wasn't a good FAQ or cache of
info anywhere else. I found my DOVE modems on eBay but they are
generally not too easy to come across. It might be worth trying some of
the other Mac swap lists, too.
It might be suggested to have a later version Mac to hear incoming calls
once they go to answer, but otherwise an earlier Mac with a hard disk
would be OK too.
