Yes, but it slipped my mind once while repairing a monitor that didn't
power up. I resoldered one of the mains connections that had come loose,
plugged it in and it worked fine again. Proud of my achievement, I went
about putting the case back on. Some wires that were too short restricted
the reassembly, causing me to reach in with both hands to get things
aligned properly. My hands promptly flew back out and had me cussing and
swearing, as I had touched the mains connection WHILE THE UNIT WAS STILL
PLUGGED IN! I was both angry and injured, from doing such a stupid thing,
those sharp metal edges and the burn marks on my fingertips. The
MacQuarium HowTo that states to discharge the CRT with one hand behind the
back makes much sense in this example, even though it was mains current
that jolted me. Another part to steer clear of when grounded are the pins
on the solder side of those big, heatsink-mounted transistors.
Well, not as bad as a friend of mine as a teenager who used his teeth
to strip wires from a power cable that was still plugged in. He woke up a
while later with a terrible headache. I still find it a wonder that he
survived to tell the tale.

     Edwin
