Actually, the other 256k of the Classic (orig.) ROM is the ROM Disk. When
third party software looks at the ROM, for all practical purposes it sees
256k, NOT 512k, since the rest is system software, NOT ROM instruction. If
you did a comparison you'd see that it matches the SE ROM almost identically
-- it has been theorized that that's all Apple did was clone the SE ROM for
the Classic and modify it as necessary for the changes in the Classic. You
failed to mention that the other 6 Classics were Classic II models. BIG
difference. A stock Classic (NOT II) would probably get beaten by the SE
FDHD. In many respects, the Classic series was a step backward from the SEs.
I suppose that even an SE FDHD could beat the 68030 Classic II, depending on
how much RAM was onboard and what System you are trying to run. If the SE
FDHD was running the optimal system with 4MB RAM, it might do much better
than a Classic II with 2MB RAM trying to run System 7.5 with a lot of
extensions. You'll need to supply more variables to answer that one.

The Samsungs are also anti-reflective -- not sure about blue-er. My
experience has been that there are far more Clintons. I once read that there
was a problem with the Samsung supply, but I could be wrong. Not sure what
you mean about taking the "newer monitors". ALL of the CRTs are
interchangeable between all the compacts (they even have the same Apple part
numbers regardless of manufacturer). Do you mean the flyback transformer? If
so, I have never seen a Classic that had the older SE-style transformer. It
would have definitely had to have been a different board as the flybacks
have a totally different pin arrangement. Check the part numbers, if there's
a REV B or later it's certainly possible.
