This is interesting. The one thing that is different
from my observations is that Classics usually take
less time than SEs to warm up. Perhaps eliminating the
PDS slot and second HD/floppy helped to speed it up.

Actually, only one was a Classic II, and I knew it
would win anyway. The others were all Classic I's,
ranging from May 1991 to July 1991 in manufacture
date.

Well, if you slow the Classic II down enough, it may
be possible, but I've never had an SE even come close
to a Classic II. Most of the books I've read with
benchmark scores in them had the Classic on top, but
I've usually seen the FDHDs beat them. However, the
older SEs (non FDHD) seem slower on Speedometer. I
once tested an FDHD, a regular SE, and a Classic, and
the FDHD won, the Classic in second, and the SE
regular in third. All had the same configuration, the
Classic may have had only 2MB RAM though with the
others at 4MB.

For statistical purposes, I've been using Speedometer.
Not sure of the version (may be 3.0 but again not
positive) and have run it on dozens of Macs.

I've noticed the abundance of Clintons as well. It
seems that Samsungs are usually on SEs but I've got
one on a Classic II pulled from special ed. as well.

Well, I noticed there are two assemblies for the
Classic I. The difference is in the connector, as I
found out when taking an earlier Classic apart. My
theory is that there were a lot of the older connector
left over from SEs and Pluses that had just been
discontinued. Since the SE/30 didn't make it through
1991 they figured they could use a bunch of them on
early Classics. The other design may have cost less,
and Apple may have figured that with a Classic II on
the way to replace the SE/30 anyway that they would
just wait until inventory ran out. The Classic in
question had a December 1990 manufacture date.

Thanks for all the info, though. After working with
iMacs and Power Mac 5200s the past few years it's been
fun to come back and talk about these old machines
again! Apple doesn't make them like they used to...

Any theory about that 20SC is still welcome.
